Berry
Ostrander is the Dobro player for Dry Creek.
He is one of the original Dry Creek members and has been friends with
Joe, John and Randall for close to 50 years.
Realizing that the Dobro itself is a unique instrument with a unique
sound, Berry’s true talent is his ability to round out and fill in the Dry
Creek sound without making it sound like the sound track for a “Dukes of
Hazzard” car chase scene or music for a Hawaiian luau.
His perfectly timed accents and fill-ins contribute greatly to the Sand
Hills music style, and his work completes Dry Creek’s link with some of the
more traditional Appalachian Bluegrass styles.
His solo work is tasteful, articulate and sometimes bold, but never
brassy or overbearing. On occasion
Berry will shelve the dobro to play the guitar with Joe. Berry’s influences
include the works of the “King of Bluegrass” Jimmy Martin as well as
Country/Jazz works of guitarist Billy Byrd. Berry is best described as a man who is the essence of the Chipola River. All of his free time is spent in some fashion in the Chipola River swamp. He is an expert hunter, fisherman and boatman. He maintains a professional home remodeling and painting business. He resides in a rustic home located among the cypress and tupelo trees on the Chipola River. |
